FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How is EPF interest calculated?

EPF interest is calculated on your monthly closing balance but credited yearly (currently 8.25% p.a.). The calculator compounds contributions annually for a close approximation.

What are the employee and employer PF rates?

The employee contributes 12% of basic+DA. Of the employer's 12%, 8.33% goes to EPS (pension) and the remaining 3.67% goes to EPF — which is why 3.67% is the default employer rate here.

Can I withdraw my full EPF balance at retirement?

Yes, the full balance with interest is paid out when you retire after 55 (or earlier under schemes like unemployment withdrawal). You can also keep it invested after switching jobs.

What if my company contributes more than 3.67%?

Some companies contribute more towards EPF. Use the employer rate field to set your actual rate and get a more accurate projection.

Is EPF tax-free?

If you have not withdrawn EPF in the first 5 years, the employer contribution, interest and the final corpus are mostly tax-free. Withdrawals before 5 years are taxed.
