FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Which tax regime is better — new or old?

The new regime has lower slab rates and a higher rebate limit (₹12 lakh), but no deductions. The old regime allows deductions like 80C and HRA. Enter your income in both regimes and compare — the tool shows both, so you can pick whichever gives lower tax.

What is the rebate under Section 87A?

Under the new regime, no tax is payable if your taxable income is up to ₹12 lakh (rebate up to ₹60,000). Under the old regime, the limit is ₹5 lakh (rebate up to ₹12,500). Marginal relief keeps the tax payable low for income just above the limit.

Is the standard deduction included?

Yes. ₹75,000 for the new regime and ₹50,000 for the old regime is applied automatically. You can toggle it off if needed.

Does this calculator include cess?

Yes, a 4% health and education cess is applied on the tax payable after rebate and marginal relief, matching the official calculation.

Are the slabs updated for FY 2025-26?

Yes, this calculator uses the FY 2025-26 (AY 2026-27) slab rates announced in the Union Budget 2025 for both regimes.
