Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between CTC and take-home salary?
CTC is the total cost to the company, including your basic, HRA, allowances, and employer contributions. Your take-home (in-hand) salary is what you actually receive after deducting EPF, professional tax and income tax.
How much PF is deducted from salary?
Typically 12% of your basic salary is deducted as the employee contribution to EPF, with a matching 12% from the employer. This calculator uses 12% by default and lets you change it.
Is professional tax included?
Yes. Professional tax varies by state — a default of ₹200 per month is applied, but you can adjust it to match your state (most states charge between ₹100 and ₹250 per month).
Is this the exact in-hand salary?
This is an accurate estimate based on standard salary structures. Exact figures can vary with your company's salary components, HRA exemptions and specific deductions, so use it as a planning tool.
Does it work for both new and old tax regime?
Yes, switch between the new and old regime to see which one gives you a higher in-hand salary, and compare both results in one click.
